COUPLE took part in European Hydrogen Week 2026 in Brussels. Co-organised by the European Commission, Hydrogen Europe and the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, the week brought together policymakers, industry and the research community from across the hydrogen value chain.
On 27 and 28 October, COUPLE was present at the stand of SINGLE. Visitors learned how COUPLE combines palladium-based membrane reactors (PdMR) and proton ceramic electrochemical reactors (PCER) to recover high-purity, pressurised hydrogen from ammonia.

The two projects are closely linked. SINGLE developed a proton ceramic electrochemical reactor that integrates ammonia cracking, hydrogen separation, heat management and compression in a single stage, avoiding the energy losses of the conventional multistage process. COUPLE builds on its results, coupling PCER technology with palladium-based membrane reactors to take ammonia-to-hydrogen conversion a step further.
On 27 October, Project Coordinator Gautier Papon presented COUPLE during SINGLE’s Final Event, in the session “Extending the value chain”, which explored how ammonia-based technologies can support efficient and flexible hydrogen value chains in Europe.
The event was also an opportunity for COUPLE to meet other projects of the European Hydrogen Innovation Cluster (EUH₂ Cluster) and to strengthen collaboration within it.
